Rumours suggest that Proving Ground may have been the last Tony Hawk's game that Neversoft will develop...
According to rumours, we may not see another Tony Hawk's game from Neversoft. The developer will apparently only be working on Guitar Hero games from now on, while fledgling developer Robomodo will take the wheel of the next Tony Hawk's game.
In the latest podcast on Jeff Gerstmann's Giant Bomb game blog (reported on GamerNode), Gerstmann comments "...if this rumour is true, Neversoft is not working on the new Tony Hawk game. They have gone fully Guitar Hero and apparently, if this is all true, the new Tony Hawk game is being made by a new studio out of Chicago made up from [former] EA Chicago people. Robomodo is the name of the would-be developer."
Robomodo's website is currently barren, displaying little more than a mission statement. The studio has not released a game previously, neither has it officially announced any games in development, although Robomodo does state on the website that it's working on an Activision project.
This would certainly fit with Activision's current stance on the Tony Hawk's franchise. During an earnings conference call earlier this year, Activision CEO Mike Griffiths revealed that there won't be the usual multi-format Tony Hawk's release in 2008. Instead, the series will take a break until fiscal 2009/2010 when a new project will be released that has already been in development for two years.
Neversoft rose to fame with the first Tony Hawk's game back in 1999 and has been responsible for the series alongside Activision ever since. Their latest Tony Hawk's game was Proving Ground, which was released last November.
