Nintendo Celebrates DS Millionaires News

Six first-party titles pass the one million mark across Europe and Ubisoft seems to be quite happy as well...

Celebrating the success that never seems to diminish, Nintendo today announced that six of its DS titles have passed the million mark across Europe.

Unsurprisingly bolstered by the popularity of the Touch! Generations range, the list includes Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain, Nintendogs (4 million) and Animal Crossing: Wild World, alongside timeless classics NEW Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart DS.

Nintendo attributes the success of the handheld and the unconventional titles to a 44% female ownership of the Nintendo DS, and hopes that future Touch! Titles will continue to appeal to all new audiences.

Laurent Fischer, European Marketing Director for Nintendo commented,

"We are delighted by the success of the Nintendo DS and DS Lite and especially pleased to see that we have exceeded the one million mark with games that appeal to both non-gamers and traditional gamers. Nintendo is proud of its role in expanding the gaming market and we hope to continue this success with the launch of Wii in Europe in December."

Equally enthused, Ubisoft's EMEA Marketing Director John Parkes, also had this to say: "The Nintendo DS has opened up a wealth of opportunities for us this year and we are thrilled with the sales performances of our key games. We are looking forward to publishing a whole host of new and exciting software for the Nintendo DS as we move into 2007."
