It seems a day doesn`t go by without somebody sueing Sega, this time its for their NBA2K2 commercial.
Nike has filed a lawsuit against Sega of America, after it claimed Segaâs NBA2K2 commercial is a scene-by-scene enactment of its 1996 âFrozen Momentâ commercial. The Nike advert saw Michael Jordan driving to the basket in a spectacular manner, as people across the world watched on their TV sets. The Sega commercial sees in-game footage of the 76ers' Allen Iverson also driving to the basket in a similar manner.
âWe believe the Sega ad has almost no original creative elements that weren't taken in whole or in part from Nike,â said Scott Reames, senior communications manager for Nike. âIt's rather shocking and disappointing to see another advertiser so blatantly shoplift our intellectual property.â
âSega has seen Nikeâs press release; however, to our knowledge, we have not yet received an official complaint from the company,â said a Sega representative. âTherefore, we cannot discuss this legal issue at this time.â
Nike are hoping to win an injunction against Sega, preventing them from running the advert, as well as compensation for costs and damages.
