When a routine escort mission goes horribly wrong, freelance mercenary Thomas Mason finds himself battling an insidious enemy that knows no boundaries. Traditional armies cannot handle these extremists - only underground guns for hire can fight a war this dirty and get results. Activision confirms a November release for Soldier of Fortune: Payback - but will it succeed where Manhunt 2 stumbled...

Activision has today confirmed the under the radar development of Soldier of Fortune: Payback, the third instalment in the FPS series notorious for its over the top action.

Another title set amongst the insidious world of Private Military Corporations, Payback takes gamers behind enemy lines as a gun-for-hire Mercenary called Thomas Mason. Featuring a globe-trotting Campaign along with the usual mix of multiplayer gametypes (including Deathmatch and Capture the Flag), the game is the first title in the Soldier of Fortune series since the release of Double Helix in 2002.

Soldier of Fortune: Payback is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this November...assuming that it makes it past the censors at the BBFC, of course.
