Retailer listings, US reports and a leaked screenshot suggest the official announcement won't be far...

A hint in the "Games for Windows" blog suggests that the next issue of the US magazine will bring the curtain down on a new chapter in the venerable Sim City series. Although stopping short of confirming the title, Green's claim of a "...new game in one of PC gaming's oldest franchises..." is reaffirmed with an apparent scan of the front cover in a following comment.

US retailers have a listing for SimCity Societies due for a US release in November, with suggestions that the traditional number moniker has been dropped to signify the radical change from previous titles in the series.

An early first image has also found its way to ImageShack, although it's hard to distinguish exactly what makes the game so different from this.

Ive always played the SC games until the next version came out. Societies is so bad I've gone back to SC4.

Im kinda pi**ed off with this game cos it requires much higher end graphics and sound card than sims 2, this is dreadful. At least its telling us Sims 3 will be higher
