A new slimed down 40GB PS3 will reportedly be announced by Sony some time this week...


According to reports on CVG, Sony may well be making an announcement this week that they are releasing a slimed down PlayStation 3 at an RRP of £299. This follows Sky News reports last week that Sony will be utilising FoxConn, one of the electronics manufacturers currently producing the PS2, for this cheaper new PS3 model.

This budget system will likely have a 40GB HDD (as opposed to the current 60GB model on sale in Europe) and is rumoured to come without backwards compatibility or USB ports. However, this seems a little suspect as it will mean that a whole new way of registering and charging the PS3's Bluetooth SixAxis controllers will be required.

Either way, presumably this will be an attempt by Sony to spoil Microsoft's Halo 3 party. Although, that would be a little bit like using a butter knife to fend off the Roman invasion.

i own a ps3. infact i just came off playing it. for methe ps3 is gd for about 1hour, than i get bored and dnt go on it agen until the next day. there is nothing dat can keep me interested in the ps3. the games and pure love e, online always glithche... [ Read full comment... ]

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways
