Irony rules the waves as the UK Advertising Standards Authority bans Vietcong: Purple Haze Tagline after complaints…
The BBC has today reported on how the tagline to Take2âs recent release, Vietcong: Purple Haze, has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK.
The tagline, which read "Napalm never smelt this good,â received 7 complaints that were upheld by the British quango. In a statement, the ASA commented that the tagline "was likely to cause serious or widespread offence.â Take2 has subsequently apologised and has removed the line from its adverts.
Ironically, the tag referred to the Robert Duvall line from Coppollaâs Apocalypse Now, in which he says, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" â“ the quote came top in a film buffs poll earlier in the year run by Blockbuster UK.
