NPD Charts Confirm Nintendo's US Dominance News

The official charts are in-line with predictions made by financial experts...


The market research firm NPD Group has released its US games and console sales figures for June. As predicted by leading financial commentators, the figures show Nintendo hardware and games atop the charts.

The figures for console sales were as follows:


  • Wii: 381,000

  • Xbox 360: 198,400

  • PS3: 98,500 (up from 82,000 last month)



    • While sales of handheld units were:


  • DS: 562,000

  • PSP: 290,100



    • This follows Michael Patcher's (of Wedbush Morgan) predictions of the NPD figures last week, which were accurate throughout although he did over-estimate the Wii unit sales by around 50,000. Patcher also predicted an industry wide 8% rise (from $444 million to $480 million) in game sales from last years figures for June. However, the NPD figures showed a 22% rise to $543 million in total software sales.

    Nintendo game titles dominated the charts for June, with four of the top five games being exclusive to either the DS or Wii. Mario Party 8 led the bunch with 426,200 unit sales.

    Most of the Games For the Wii ARE SOOOOOOO BAD, How can they compete with XBOX 360.
