Peter Moore speaks to the Japanese press regarding the Xbox2…
Speaking to the Nikkei Business Publication, Peter Moore Corporate Vice-President Microsoft, recently outlined the problems faced by the Xbox within Japan.
Determining that the reason the Xbox has faltered because of three reasons, Moore cited the fact that the overall look and style of the Xbox isnât suiting to the Japanese market; the catalogue of games released in Japan is too small and doesnât focus closely enough on popular genres within the region and finally that the two-year lead of the Playstation2 was simply impossible to play catch up to.
Well itâs hardly brain-science, however Moore did make interesting claims that Microsoft would address all of these issues for the release of Xbox2. Confirming that the big and bulky design of the Xbox will be changed, with Moore suggesting a smaller and simpler design for the Xbox2; whilst going on to claim that movies, music and home entertainment will be crucial to the Japanese market â“ presumably recognizing the slant Sony are taking with the Playstation3.
Particularly Xbox Live! Appears paramount to the Xbox brand, and as such the ability to take the Xbox2 online immediately out of the box will continue the trend laid out by its predecessor. In keeping with this, comments recently attributed to Bill Gates, suggested that Xbox Live! Will be continuously developed, with such aspects as âspectator participationâ providing the main emphasis for the next development â“ whether or not people will actually sit down and watch people playing videogames remains questionable however at this stage.
Naturally Moore wouldnât be drawn into specific details regarding pricing and release dates, claiming that they don not want to give their opponents a headstart; whilst finishing with the bold claim that the war has not yet been won by one battle.
