Capcom confirms the development of Monster Hunter 3 for Wii, whilst PS3 version drops out of view...
In an about turn, Capcom today confirmed the development of Monster Hunter 3 for the Nintendo Wii. Traditionally a franchise associated with the PlayStation, the shift to multiple formats for the award-winning series can be seen as a significant boost for Nintendo and a costly loss for Sony, particularly in Japan where the series has enjoyed significant success.
Whilst there's some confusion over the fate of Monster Hunter 3 on the PlayStation3, Forbes has quoted Capcom's managing corporate officer Katsuhiko Ichii as claiming the PS3 version has been canned "Due to high development cost of titles for PS3," before confirming: "we have decided to switch the platform to which we release our Monster Hunter 3 title."
Capcom assures us that Monster Hunter 3 has been developed specifically for Wii to take into account its unique aspects, and promises a Monster Hunter unlike any other. Presumably, the game will take advantage of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service, although Capcom has yet to disclose any specific details on the title.
