Activision's military advisers describe some of the historical background to one of the COD2 set pieces...
In a bid to emphasise the depth and reflection of historical accuracy in its forthcoming sequel to Call of Duty, Activision has revealed some of the thoughts of the gameâs two military advisors Hank Keirsey, Lieutenant Colonel US Army (retired) and John Hillen, Captain US Army (retired), as they provide some of the historical details behind one of the gameâs set pieces â“ the battle at Toujane, which formed part of the larger conflict on Mareth Line in North Africa.
The battle was one of many tête-à-tête encounters between General Montgomery and Field Marshall Rommel of the Afrikakorp and has been highlighted by Activision because of the necessity of both Infantry and the Tank divisions to work closely together. Building up the conflict in Toujane, John Hillen described the challenges faced by the military (that will hopefully be replicated in COD2) as, âthe culmination of a titanic campaign that had swept back and forth across North Africa for over two yearsâ¦the close coordination of tanks, infantry, and even air support seen in this mission make this an excellent and intensive battle that was historically decisive.â
That Call of Duty 2 is to encompass a squad system is sure to make set pieces such as Toujane all the more exciting given that Keirsey comments that, ââ¦because of the tight quarters of houses and narrow valleys, the tanks and infantry really need to work closely together. A heads up from a grunt to a tanker about whatâs in a window or around a corner can make all of the difference for success.â
With details of Call of Duty 2 expected at E3 next week, weâll have more on the title shortly...
