Codemasters are currently hard at work on Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing for the PS2, promising the most authentic boxing action yet seen on a console. As players progress through fights, more challengers and game features are unlocked. Win big and the purse money from a fight lets you buy special moves and extra skills from opponents as each is beaten, building up their own boxerâs skills in the process. Feeling confident? Players can, at any time, call up Tyson for a âfriendlyâ fight to see how their skills and techniques are coming along.
Better get training â“ Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing features 9 different game modes. Among these, Bronze, Silver and Gold title belts challenge players to develop their boxers through a series of fights until the title is won. After every fight in the Belt series, purse money is awarded comprising of a win fee plus Entertainment, Surprise and Power Bonuses.
- Bronze Title Belt â“ Get started with a series of fights against six bronze- ranking boxers. Every time an opponent is successfully beaten, they become unlocked and can be used in other game modes. Win the sixth title fight and the Silver Title Belt is unlockedâ¦
- Silver Title Belt â“ A tougher series of 9 fights to be fought against silver-ranking opponents. Again, complete the fights in sequence and you can unlock beaten opponents for use in other game modes. Win the title and unlock the Gold Title Beltâ¦
- Gold Title Belt â“ Golden skills are needed to complete a brutal series of 12 fights against the gameâs hardest boxers. Win the title and you can keep on defending it in extra fights until you are eventually beaten. Also when you win the title, you unlock the mighty Mike Tyson Challenge, conquer this and you will unlock the ultimate challenge that the game has to offer. In both of these game modes, players get inside Tysonâs mind and fight as him.
Exhibition Matches, Speed Boxing and Sparring make up the other one player game modes. Thereâs also a two-player mode and a multiplayer mode for up to eight players fighting each other in a series of matches. Custom boxers, when saved to memory card can be pitted against friends boxers in both of these modes.
Thereâs plenty worth fighting for, players are rewarded with all kinds of unlockable bonuses including special combos, signature punches, stadia, boxer taunts, special entry tunes and much more.
Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing is currently scehduled for an April 2002 release on PS2 and Xbox.
