The last Mortal Kombat title for the current-gen is confirmed along with the PSP's Unchained...

Midway has today confirmed the development of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on PlayStation2 and Xbox, and also announced that the title will be the last MK game for the current-generation of consoles. Said to feature the biggest range of characters from the past and present of the series, Armageddon will also include a new Create-a-Fighter mode.

"As the final chapter of Mortal Kombat on current generation gaming platforms, we're eager to raise the bar for the fighting genre yet again with Mortal Kombat: Armageddon," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "Building off of the tremendous successes of Mortal Kombat: Deception in October 2004 and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks in September 2005, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon introduces the most comprehensive cast of playable characters from every Mortal Kombat title, both past and present, in addition to the first create-a-fighter mode in franchise history."

The news comes just a day after Midway officially confirmed the first Mortal Kombat title for PSP, Mortal Kombat: Unchained, which was originally announced back in a financial report in 2005 as 'Mortal Kombat: Deception Unchained'. Today Midway confirmed that Unchained will include six new characters to the MK universe, as well as one-on-one Wi-Fi, and a new endurance mode.

Both titles are set for release this Autumn; we'll have more shortly...
