Microsoft's Motion Sensitive Wand Unveiled ? News

The Seattle PI is on the ball again with revelations about Microsoft's motion sensitive controller...
It's been the subject of intense rumour and speculation for many months now, however today's report in the Seattlepi.com has finally unveiled further details on Microsoft's attempt to jump on the motion-control craze.
If the report is anything to go by (these guys were the first to call the Bungie split) then Project Newton will be based around similar patents licensed by Nintendo for the Wii Remote from Gyration Inc.,.
Citing internal sources, the article suggests a Winter 2008 release and will likely come with a code to download Rare's previously rumoured Conkers: Fast and the Furriest.
Looking closely at the actual hardware, the article further states that an LED sensor bar (similar to the Wii) will plug into the 360's USB ports, with a front accelerometer and gyroscope sensors in the device that can detect tilt and motion. Rumble motors will also feature in the device, which will offer wireless functionality and a built in microphone for Xbox Live communication and play.
The SeattlePI.com further suggests that the device will work with the Xbox Play & Charge kit, suggesting similar dimensions, i.e. a handheld device, which we'll imaginatively dub the Xbox Wand for now.
So, a desperate attempt to boost flagging Xbox sales and jump on the bandwagon that left town well over a year ago, or an invigorating change of direction from the hardcore, shooter obsessed, format? Of course, Microsoft is likely to point at previous attempts at such a device and boldly claim that it's the result of many years of R&D, before anybody had even caressed a Wii Remote - you decide.
