Rumours suggest that both Microsoft and Activision are gearing up to purchase Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios…
Wherever Peter Molyneux goes, people take notice; so it comes as no surprise to learn that the latest rumour to hit the net concerns the acquisition of his development studio, namely Lionhead.
If weâre led to believe in several articles that have appeared across the weekend then both Microsoft and Activision are fiercely fighting off each other, for the right to purchase the leading UK developer.
Both publishers have key titles currently in development under the careful guidance of Molyneux at Lionhead, namely The Movies for Activision whilst Fable and B.C are being worked on for Microsoft â“ it should be noted that both Fable and B.C are actually the work of Big Blue Box and Intrepid Games, both studios are âsatellite teamsâ from Lionhead.
However at this stage itâs purely just idle speculation which is likely to follow Molyneux wherever he goes; certainly fans will remember the fact that he originally formed Lionhead simply because he wanted to get away from the tight controls that EA had on him after they purchased his previous studios Bullfrog â“ why Molyneux would want to align himself to one party once again remains questionable.
When contacted regarding the situation a Lionhead spokesperson couldnât comment on the situation; however weâre hoping that clarification will come shortly.
