The Xbox 360 camera is finally released in North America, although you're probably not that interested...
The Xbox Live Vision camera finally gets a release in North America today, allowing Xbox 360 gamers to video chat, send photo messages, create their own in-game avatars and customise their GamerTag - though we'll have to wait until October 6th before the "next-generation" camera is released in Europe for the rather pricey sum of £34.99.
Updates to Bankshot Billiards 2, Hardwood Hearts, Hardwood Spades and Hardwood Backgammon will also be made available, to join UNO in offering Xbox Live Vision support.
It's hard to get ecstatic about the peripheral, however, with a less then clear direction behind the device and a lack of evidence that the camera has much of a future beyond mild curiosity. For the device to succeed Microsoft needs to build a service around the peripheral and develop a strong sense of community, the odd occasional game designed for it wouldn't go amiss - but we don't mean an endless supply of mini-games compilations.
