Microsoft Premieres RPG Raft News

Star Ocean 4 subtitled, The Last Remnant heading to Xbox 360 first, and an early September release for Infinite Undiscovery...

This isn't much of a revelation, but the Xbox 360 isn't doing particularly well in Japan, and seems to be heading to the depths of its predecessor over in the Far East. That said, at Microsoft's 'RPG Premiere' event in Japan, the publisher has shown that it intends to go down fighting.

A raft of titles, all of them RPGs (surprisingly enough for a conference entitled 'RPG Premiere'), have had release periods and other such details unveiled at the event, including news that Square-Enix's The Last Remnant will be heading to the console ahead of a later launch on PlayStation 3.

The title, which forms part of Square-Enix's overall global strategy, is scheduled to arrive on the Microsoft platform during the Winter. Infinite Undiscovery on the other hand, has received release dates for the three main territories: the Xbox 360 exclusive is due to arrive in North America on September 2nd, Europe from September 5th, and finally Japan and Asia on September 11th.

Finally, Square-Enix confirmed a subtitle for Star Ocean 4. Named 'The Last Hope', the RPG is due to hit the console in 2009, and takes place a few hundred years before the events of the original RPG.

Not to be left out, Namco Bandai unveiled Tales of Vesperia, which is expected in North America and Japan this year, with a release across Europe due sometime in 2009.

Whether this closely-knitted band of titles will be enough to provide a little bounce for the console in Japan remains to be seen, though the fact that Square-Enix is giving a greater prominence to Western audiences perhaps reveals that attention is turning towards the fight in North America and Europe.
