Microsoft admit disappointment over downtime at Christmas and promise a belated gift to make up for it...


Anybody trying to log-in onto Xbox Live for some festive fun probably came across some problems during the Christmas holidays, with reports of connection errors, downtime, and plenty of other gremlins in the works.

Today Microsoft's Marc Whitten General Manager Xbox Live responded to the issue, demonstrating their disappointment with the promise of a free Xbox Live Arcade title to every Xbox Live member - even if you didn't spend your Christmas hols playing on the 360.

Suggesting that the root cause behind the problems was the success of the service, and not too many Xbox Live techies taking time off to enjoy mince pies and eggnog, Whitten claims the service enjoyed the largest sign-up of new members during the period in its 5 year history. Xbox Live also saw further records smashed yesterday with the single biggest day of concurrent members on the service.

oh yeah just for the record the chip intel are working on is a 16 core chip possibly even going as far as a 32 core either way the next xbox will have all the features of the ps3 and more (though xbox live still wont be free i dont have a problem wit... [ Read full comment... ]

i bought a ps3 and i HAVE not looked back. even if alot of the games don't utilise it's 8 core (just for you 360 fanboys that's 6 core more than your pathetic dual core) processor well but in time they will. i think the 360 is at it's peak and won't ... [ Read full comment... ]
