Microsoft announe plans to release two Sega titles in Europe...
Having recently secured the European publishing rights to Capcom Steel Battalion; Microsoft today announced that it would publish Segaâs Toejam & Earl 3: Mission To Earth and Shenmue 2 for the Xbox in Europe. The future of both titles had raised some doubt, considering that Shenmue 2 has already been released in Europe on the Dreamcast and reports claimed it was unlikely that we would see the return of Toejam and Earl in Europe.
Toejam & Earl 3: Mission to Earth is the latest title in the revered Sega series that stars two funky aliens on their quest to retrieve the 12 sacred albums of funk. Development originally started on the Dreamcast, however the game was converted to the Xbox, when the Dreamcast fortunes changes and Sega moved out of the hardware business.
Shenmue 2 was originally released on the Dreamcast in Europe and Japan, however with the Dreamcastâ demise Microsoft secured the title for exclusive release on the Xbox in the US. We urge anyone who hasnât seen this masterpiece to check out the game when itâs released, the continuation of this series rests on the sales of this title.
Both games will be released during the first quarter of 2003, when weâll have a close look at the titles.
âWeâre very excited about this new agreement with Sega,â said Michel Cassius, Director of Xbox Platform EMEA. "Both ToeJam & Earl III and Shenmue II are hotly-anticipated titles from some of the industry's most renowned developers and we're pleased to be bringing them to Xbox gamers in Europe. They join a strong portfolio of Xbox titles that includes hit Sega games like Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future - both available free in the Sega Christmas Pack offer we've developed with Sega. Sega has been a great partner for us and this agreement is a natural step in the development of our relationship."
"We are pleased to partner with Xbox and are confident they will do justice to these great titles," said Naoya Tsurumi, President & COO. "Xbox will provide excellent distribution and marketing support for these titles, both of which have been on many gamers' wish lists for months. We look forward to these titles' success and the continuation of our excellent relationship with Xbox."
