Microsoft Denies 360 Price Cut News

No plans for a price-cut before the end of the year...
A news report suggesting that the Xbox 360 Premium pack will be reduced from $399 to $299 before the end of the year, has today been denied by Microsoft representatives.
The alleged price reduction was originally appeared on DigiTimes, quoting unidentified Taiwanese suppliers; however, a Microsoft spokeswoman claimed, "Before the end of this year, we have no plans to cut the price of Xbox 360."
With 5 million Xbox 360 sold to date Microsoft are on course to deliver the predicted 10 million units before the Playstation3 goes on sale, but the launch of the Sony's next-generation format and the Nintendo Wii could begin to impede on these expectations during the all-important Winter season.
We'd expect Microsoft will play a wait-and-see game before making a final decision on any price reduction; if the allure of the Playstation brand is still enough to pull consumers, despite the exorbitant price-point, we'd expect a price drop a year into the 360's life-cycle to re-address that - and of course, by then, Microsoft should have squeezed production costs, as evident by its latest round of supply contracts.
