Lucent Technologies find itself on the receiving end of Microsoft's lawyers with the Redmond company claiming that Lucent's original suit is invalid...


Announced in the US publication, The Wall Street Journal, it appears that Microsoft is not about to lie down and accept claims from technologies firm Lucent that they infringed upon a patent linked to encoding/decoding MPEG-2 video in Xbox 360.

Microsoft's counter-suit argues that Lucent's patent, dating back from 1993, wasn't filed with the correct art rendering their position invalid. If that wasn't enough, Microsoft is also filing a number of copyright infringement cases against Lucent.

With the argument set to continue you can almost hear the lawyers rubbing their hands from this side of the Atlantic...

oh yeah just for the record the chip intel are working on is a 16 core chip possibly even going as far as a 32 core either way the next xbox will have all the features of the ps3 and more (though xbox live still wont be free i dont have a problem wit... [ Read full comment... ]
