Microsoft Announce 'As Expected' Q3 Results News

Microsoft Corporation announces Q3 results for fiscal 2005, and looks ahead to the future...
Microsoft have to day confirmed its Quarter 3 results for the fiscal year 2005, which ended on March 31st 2005, revealing that they are largely as expected. The company has confirmed an increase in revenue of 5% to $9.62 billion compared to the same period last year and that operating income for the Q3 stood at $3.33 billion, up from $1.28 billion in Q3 2004.
Confirming the results, Scott Di Valerio, Corporate Vice President and Corporate Controller at Microsoft said, âDespite a mixed enterprise software environment, the quarter played out largely as we expected and operating income and earnings per share results were in line with our expectationsâ¦Given our optimism about the future with our strong product pipeline and the growth opportunities from our investments in innovative products and services, we expect increased revenue growth in fiscal 2006.â
As well as announcing the Q3 2005 results, Microsoft also give itâs forecast for the fourth quarter, which ends on June 30th 2005, and for the fiscal year of 2006 that ends on June 30th 2006. For the fourth quarter the company states that it expects revenue to stand in the region of between $10.1 billion and $10.2 billion, with an operating income of between $4.1 billion and $4.2 billion which includes stock based compensation expense.
Forecasting for the year ahead Microsoft has stated that it expects revenue to stand between $43.3 billion and $44.1 billion with operating income at $18.3 billion and $18.9 billion including stock based compensation expense.
Microsoft has also confirmed that the Xbox division has once again slipped back into the red with a $164 million operating loss. The news comes just months after the company reported the Xbox division's very first operating profit of $84 million.
