Xbox Live Arcade gains heavyweight support with the resurrection of Xbox Live Arcade...
At the recent Digital Life consumer technology showcase held in New York Microsoft Game Studios confirmed a finalised launch games line-up⦠although itâs probably not the one youâve been waiting for.
With illustrious third-party support from the likes of Electronic Arts, Midway, Capcom, Vivendi-Universal, Konami, SEGA and Hudsonsoft Xbox Live Arcade looks likely to become Microsoftâs rival to the Nintendo Revolution âVirtual Copnsoleâ, housing a wide array of retro classics and finding an extra source of revenue for everybodyâs back catalogue!

Not only will the service provide an attractive source of revenue for third-party publishers, but also opens up a distribution channel for independent developers with novel concepts.
Every game in the Xbox Live Arcade features a free playable demo to Silver and Gold subscribers, whilst Tetris creator, Alexey Pajitnovâs, Hexic HD, will come pre-loaded onto the 360.

âWeâre proud to be part of Xbox Live Arcade on Xbox 360, the worldâs first and only destination where gamers can find, download and buy smaller games directly to their console,â said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. âRetro, casual and hardcore gamers will be pleased to have access to the selection of quality SEGA titles we plan to offer via the new Xbox Live Arcade.â
Certainly Xbox Live Arcade has taken on more significance this time around compared to the toe-dip check on the current generation Xbox; integrated into the Xbox 360 and with such strong support, this service could become a significant factor in Microsoftâs arsenal for the next-gen conquest.
