Michael Bay Slams Microsoft News

The uber-action movie director/producer has openly criticised Microsoft's policies towards the HD format...
Michael Bay, the director of such films as The Rock and Transformers, has painted a conspiratorial picture of Microsoft's marketing policies regarding high definition media. He made the comments on the 'DVD Formats' forum of his official website.
And the plot thickens... Bay maintains that Microsoft is paying film studios $100 million payouts to adopt the HD-DVD format. Apparently, this is not to ensure the success of the HD-DVD brand, for which there is already an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player available (retailing at £114.99).
On the contrary, according to Bay, who asserts that these payouts are to maintain "confusion in the market until they [Microsoft] perfect the digital downloads." Here are Bay's comments in full:
"What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just [to] embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu-Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth."
Currently, HD-DVD's (developed by Toshiba) and Blu-Ray (Sony) are battling it out for the dominant share of the HD disc market. Recent European sales figures placed Blu-Ray movies (not including game discs) considerably ahead of HD-DVD with a 73% share of the market, largely due to the presence of the PlayStation 3.
This news comes a day after Microsoft unveiled their European Video Store on Xbox Live Marketplace, where Xbox 360 owners can rent HD films for approximately £3.20 (380 Microsoft Points).
