Nintendo release final name, brief story details and the first screens from the return of Samus Aran...

Metroid fans will no doubt have seen many of the following images previously, when some rough screens from GameInformer were scanned and subsequently blurted across the Net, however we thought it would be better to wait until the first official screens were released to showcase the games stunning visual quality.

Thankfully Nintendo has also taken the opportunity to give the game a full name, now known as Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, along with a basic breakdown of the story featured within the game.

Once again players find Samus travelling to a planet torn into light and darkness; hunted by a mysterious entity and a warring race called the Ing, Samus must explore the doomed planet to uncover dark secrets and augment her suit with new weapons and abilities.

As had previously been confirmed, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes will feature a four-player splitscreen mode, however weāre a little unsure about the integrity of having four Samus Aranās when we know there can only be one ā“ letās just hope itās a lot of fun.

Keen eyed readers may also be able to notice some of the new weapons available to Samus, particularly in the shape of new missile capabilities depicted in the HUD.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is scheduled to make a playable appearance at E3; weāll have more information soon.
