2K confirms the first title to come from the Firaxis/PopTop merger; Sid Meier to shape the evolution of Railroad Tycoon...
Following the news last week that 2K Games has consolidated two of its development studios, Firaxis and PopTop, the publisher today announced the first full title to come from the new team. Sid Meier's Railroads! is the next evolution of PopTop's Railroad Tycoon franchise and will be released in Autumn 2006 on PC.
Over thirty different trains will be available in the game from diesels and the Japanese Bullet through to the 'golden age' of steam, together with over twenty different goods and thirty industries distributed across the gameworld. Railroads! will also feature a brand new system that challenges players with continuous information on supply and demand, together with the LocoBuilder that enables players to build their own steam engine. As well as offering a number of single-player scenarios Railroads! will also feature 'sandbox', LAN and internet modes.
"In addition to winning countless awards, the Railroad Tycoon franchise pioneered the simulation and strategy genres by introducing limitless gameplay," said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director of 2K Games. "Building on the franchise, Sid Meieršs Railroads! will deliver a simulation experience that caters to both strategy gamers and locomotive fans alike."
