Mario Kart Notches Up Half Million In Japan News

First week sales unsurprisingly find Mario's latest kart action top of the Japanese charts...
Although we can't possibly comment on whether Mario's latest exploits on the racing track are the best yet or little more than a gradual rehash of the 16-year formula (given that Nintendo didn't have enough copies to send to us), it seems Japanese Wii owners are all over Mario Kart Wii, propelling the title to the top spot in the charts.
Surpassing the phenomenally popular Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G on PSP, Mario Kart Wii has noted up a reported staggering figure of 594,000 copies during its first week of sales. In comparison, the pretty stupendous Mario Kart DS achieved sales of 219,000 copies during its first four days of sale in Japan, suggesting that once again everything Nintendo touches turns to gold - or piles of Yen at the very least.
Of course this success has been matched in the UK, where Mario Kart Wii's launch week sales eclipsed that of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Party 8, and Super Paper Mario, combined!
Please Nintendo can we have our copy now?

Also that wheel had better be good, otherwise Nintendo have just stolen a gimmicky idea from Ubisoft.
