Nintendo reveals that up to eight players can participate via the Broadband adaptor; but it's not online...


Nintendo has updated its official E3 web-site with intriguing new Mario Kart: Double Dash details. Itâs been widely known that the game will support up to eight players, however how Nintendo planned to implement this caused a great deal of confusion amongst us gaming journos; online was first mentioned and then rapidly hushed out, talk of a LAN peripheral followed allowing up to 8 GameCubeâ to be linked and finally the suggestion of two players to every controller Micro Machines styleâ¦

In a sentence recently added to the Mario Kart: Double Dash page, Nintendo reveals:

âPack up to eight players into your living room and turn up the fun when you connect Nintendo GameCube systems via the Broadband adaptor.â

So is this a backtrack over previous comments that denied Mario Kart: Double Dash would feature online play? Our guess is that the Broadband adaptor is used as a system link device, allowing GameCube owners to link machines in a similar manner to the Playstation2 iLink.
