In a somewhat surprising move, Take Two Interactive has today confirmed the acquisition of Mad Doc Software by Rockstar Games, along with a name change for the studio to Rockstar New England.
The outfit, which recently collaborated with the GTA IV/Midnight Club developers on the Xbox 360 version of Bully: Scholorship Edition, has previously worked on titles such as Empire Earth II and III, and Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna, strategy and action RPG titles respectively that are far from the usual sort of games associated with Rockstar Games.
"The team at Mad Doc Software is extremely talented," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "Bringing them within the Rockstar Games family will enhance our core technology and further support our commitment to creating progressive and innovative gaming experiences."
"To be a part of Rockstar Games is an amazing opportunity for everyone here," said Dr. Davis, Studio Head of the new Rockstar New England. "We're eager to bring our expertise to bear in the character-driven, open-world stories that make Rockstar Games titles so uniquely compelling."
Rockstar New England becomes the latest in the Rockstar Games family, following the likes of Rockstar London, Rockstar Toronto, Rockstar San Diego, and of course, Rockstar North.
