Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices President sold over $6 million of internal stock in the run up to last week's $1 billion warranty extension...
Just days after Microsoft announced that owners of Xbox 360 consoles would be covered with a three year warranty as a result of the dreaded three red flashing lights, a report filed with the Security and Exchanges Commission (SEC) has revealed that Robbie Bach, President of Entertainment and Devices division at the Redmond corporation, sold over $6 million worth of internal stock in the run up to the declaration.
Bach came third behind Bill Gates and Microsoft general consul Brad Smith in the amount of insider stock sold in the two months leading up to last week's announcement - though filings with the SEC revealed that unlike Gates and Smith, Bach's decision to sell the $6.2 million worth of stock was not scheduled.
Defending the Xbox boss to publication Market Week, Microsoft spokesman Eric Hollreiser said that "Robbie Bach's past trading is completely unrelated to last week's announcement. ... [He] continues to hold a significant stake in Microsoft and remains confident in the long-term success of the company."
As a result of last week's news, some analysts are now speculating that Microsoft's aim of getting the Xbox into the black may be more difficult than before. We'll just have to wait until the corporation's next financial results are released next week on July 19th to find out whether Microsoft remains confident or not.
