SCEI boss reveals a month by month breakdown of the distribution of developer tools for PlayStation3...


As information surrounding the PlayStation3 continues to be released, Sony Computer Entertainment boss Ken Kutaragi has released a timeline of the PlayStation3 developer kit.

The end of March will see final versions of the Cell processor and RSX GPU, together with prototype versions of the blu-ray drive and the console's controller. Final versions of both the drive and controller are expected to be released by May 2006.

Software development tools set for release by the end of this month include Alpha versions of the OSD and Network Platform, and complete versions of Havok Complete XS 3.3 and Ageia PhysX 2.4.

April sees the development kits ramps up to version 0.84 with mastering and emulation tools made available, together with Beta versions of the OSD and Network Platform. Next month will also see sub-licenses granted for Epic's Unreal Engine 3. May will see the dev kit reach version 0.9 before the final version is set in June 2006.

lol it wont happen in 9 years, i take it youve been asleep for quite a while as the rest of the world knows there is a resession going on and people are less likely to buy new stuff as they dont know how long before there place of work shuts down cau... [ Read full comment... ]

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways

lol just how does sony expect the ps3 to sell more than the ps2 is a bit dumb considering the ps2 is still selling bucket loads across the world and with 120 more titles expected to hit the ps2 this year is it a real objective to shift over 140 milli... [ Read full comment... ]

not true. mine jumped 50 to 100 and i have had no problems since the update. i just hope that theres patches coming out for trophies soon...
