Konami confirm a European release for PSP first-person-shooter, suggesting a possible launch period for the platform...
Konami today confirmed a European release for Coded Arms, a first-person-shooter for the PSP, and further continued to muddy the waters regarding the launch date of the system by claiming that the game will be ready for a Q3 2005 release â“ aka July - September.
Coded Arms is described as a âfast-paced and aesthetically stunningâ first-person-shooter set within the restraints of a hastily abandoned Virtual Reality system, which was originally conceived to prepare mankind for an alien invasion. However the humans were quick to shut it down in an ironic twist, when they discovered that it had become self-aware and had created a brutal world, populated by virtual yet hostile alien races.
Players take the role of a hacker equipped with a vast range of high-tech weaponry, and must cleanse the VR world of the new threat. Over 30 different weapons feature within the game, including the standard repertoire of machine guns, pulse weapons and sniper rifles.
The game takes place across three different worlds, and weâre promised striking visuals, eerie lighting and shadow effects along with advanced AI techniques, but whether this combination can change the widely held belief that first-persons-shooters (post-Doom 2) are not suited to the PSP remains to be seen.
Naturally Wi-Fi multiplayer is a given, challenging up to four players to compete in a variety of multiplayer modes, with weapons collected in the Single-Player campaign being accessed in this.
Weâll have the first trailer and more information on Coded Arms very shortly...
