Not quite a Silent Hill title for the PSP, more of an experience...
Konami has today confirmed the development of The Silent Hill Experience for PSP, which will bring a flavour of the survival-horror franchise to the Sony handheld.
Featuring a mix of music from all four videogames, interactive comic books, and interviews with the crew of the forthcoming movie, The Silent Hill Experience (like Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic) aims to expand the offering for PSP owners beyond movies and games. As well including a selection of Silent Hill tracks composed by Akira Yamaoka, users will be able to enjoy a new interactive comic book from Scott Ciencin as well as the classic Dying Inside comic series.
"Konami has created an entirely new genre for the PSP system, combining a variety of media onto one package and showcasing the renowned Silent Hill franchise in a way that has never been done before," offered Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of European Product Management of Konami of Europe. "Fans of the Silent Hill series and horror fans alike will appreciate all the exclusive content as well as get a unique behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Silent Hill movie."
Whether The Silent Hill Experience or Metal Gear Solid Digital Comic heralds a new age of content for the PSP, or merely act as a cynical way of getting key franchises onto the handheld without developing full games is sure to be debated in the coming weeks - but at least it's something different from the usual ports that the system has to put up with.
A release date is yet to be announced by Konami, but we'll have more news shortly...
