Following a similar process that followed the SEGA-Sammy merger, Konami today announced a radical shake-up of its development subsidiaries, confirming that it will merge its three development studios (Konami Studios, Konami Tokyo, Konami Japan) into one subject to the approval of shareholders.

In addition the centralised Konami outfit will also merge with Konami Online, with confirmation that more focus will be placed upon online games, mobile phones and the management of online networks, which Konami envisage as a growing sector.

Dependant on shareholders approval which is due to occur on February 22nd 2005, the merger is set to go ahead on April 1st 2005. Share allocations were given as 0.42, 1.00 and 0.82 shares of Konami to 1 share of Konami Studio, Konami Tokyo and Konami Japan respectively.

Weâll have more news on the situation in the New Year.
