Beta registration opens in Japan for a Solid-less online Metal Gear experience...
Konami and Kojima Productions have today confirmed the development of Metal Gear Online for PlayStation 3. Built utilising the engine behind the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (so far confirmed as a PS3 exclusive), MGO will feature gameplay for up to 16-players, and showcase the 'SOP system' that enables players' characters to build real-time battlefield information with allies using nanomachines.
Environments from Guns of the Patriots will be used in MGO, together with MGS4's characters, as Kojima Productions announced they were hoping to create a compelling 'strategic multiplayer experience'.
Up to 3,000 Japanese PlayStation3 players will be able to get their hands on a sneak peak at the game by entering into the Closed Beta test, which is due to begin in August.
Metal Gear Online was announced as part of the 20th Anniversary celebrations for the Metal Gear franchise, together with confirmation of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops +. A 15 minute segment of gameplay from MGS4 is due for release tomorrow, narrated by series 'Director', Hideo Kojima.
