New Role-Playing Game confirmed for Wii; Opoona set to hit Japan later in summer 2007 with a worldwide release to be determined...
Koei has today announced the development of a Role-Playing Game exclusively for Wii. Due for release in Japan this summer (with a global launch to be determined), Opoona follows the story of a young boy on his journey to find his two siblings, lost after an accident on the planet Landroll.
Using the Wii's nunchuk to control the game's "Active Bonbon Battle" combat system, Opoona will be able to throw "Energy Bonbons" at enemies, with gestures capable of changing the trajectory of the bonbon. Character progression through the course of the game will be dependent on the various licences owned by Opoona, enabling players to perform different skills across the various locations in the game.
As well as the art direction of Shintaro Majima, who has previously worked on Square-Enix's Dragon Quest series, Opoona features a host of other veterans including Hitoshi Sakimoto, acclaimed for his work on the music for Final Fantasy XII.
"With the unique capabilities of the Wii Nunchuk controller and the vision of Arte Piazza, OPOONA will present gamers with a role playing experience like no other." said Will Curley, Sales Manager for KOEI Ltd.
