Square-Enix celebrates a significant milestone as Hashimoto-san thanks the fans...
Initially, the thought of Square and Disney combining forces, was enough to send shudders of denial, waves of withdrawal and bitter hatred amongst a fanatical Final Fantasy fanbase. So, the resulting quality and style of the Kingdom Hearts series is something of an incredible accomplishment and a little surprising.
Although the games would have likely sold well regardless of quality, news that the series has passed 10 million global sales to date is testimony to what Shinji Hashimoto, Tetsuya Nomura, and the team at Square-Enix have accomplished and will likely exceed with the third chapter.
"When we first started developing KINGDOM HEARTS, we never imagined we would pass the 10 million mark so quickly," said series producer Shinji Hashimoto. "We are delighted and extremely grateful for the support from our fans around the globe. We hope to continue to provide games which fulfill your anticipation in the future."
The conclusion of Kingdom Hearts 2 may have left plenty of questions unanswered; however, the only one that really matters is when Disney/Square-Enix will confirm the third chapter. Currently directing Final Fantasy XIII Versus, there's still a large question mark over when Nomura-san will return to Mickey and Sora - surely a Tokyo Game Show teaser later in the year would suffice.
