Japanese reports allude to new developments at Square-Enix...

What is it with Square-Enix' obsession with expanding games into grandiose projects?

First we have the "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII" that attempted to inject life back into Square-Enix' finest hour yet, with the enjoyable CGI flick, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children; the less enjoyable PS2 title, Dirge of Cerberus and a collection of mobile phone titles that we'll never see across Europe.

Then came the revitalisation of the Mana/Seiken Densetsu series with the "World of Mana" project, consisting of a new title in the series for the Nintendo DS and Playstation2, along with a mobile title and a currently unannounced final

Of course Final Fantasy XIII is also set to receive the treatment, with three different games making up the fancily titled "Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII" project.

According to Japanese reports, however, there may be something to come beforehand, with suggestions of a new chapter to Final Fantasy XII on the way - and no we still don't know a European release date for the original title yet! Despite the lack of creditable information, some sources are already speculating that the title will make an appearance on the Nintendo DS.

The merest hint featured on FF7.BLOG also mentions the release of Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix; a likely Japanese-only release similar to the original featuring enhancements and features from overseas adaptations.

Hopefully Square-Enix will provide further information, or at least official confirmation, soon...
