Videogame blog'sperts, Joystiq, are today reporting details on not only the next Call of Duty title, but also the one after that...

Citing a "reliable source", the article suggests that development is currently underway on a title focussed around the Normandy breakout campaign, with the inclusion of Canadian troops, Polish tanks and French freedom fighters. Joystiq maintains that players will be presented a variety of roles as they advance on Paris, including parachute drops and commando raids with the S.A.S. The game looks likely to expand upon the tank offerings in previous titles, with the inclusion of jeeps and motorcycles.

Further still the game could contain "Battlefield Actions", which enable players to perform various manoeuvres (sprint-to-cover, mine disarms, dodging techniques) based upon successfully inputting certain combinations.

The big surprise, one that sounds significantly less plausible, comes from the second allegation, suggesting that Call of Duty is to make a drastic departure into the present day. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (haven't we heard that somewhere before), has players taking the role of members of the U.S Army, U.S Marines and British S.A.S, as they fight against terrorists loyal to a Middle-East dictator. The battle allegedly takes place on various stages as you fight in locations as diverse as vessels at sea in the North Atlantic, secret terrorist cells in London, the urban streets of Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The article suggests that the unnamed WWII title and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on Playstation2, Xbox, PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation3.

When asked to comment on the report Activision responded with the traditional "no comment on matters of rumour and speculation", however it's perhaps not that surprising to believe a new title in the hugely popular Call of Duty series is underway.
