A chest full of new features and functionality awaits in the latest TVG upgrade...
Emerging through the floods intact TVG has undergone something of a change with the latest version since the last one (we lost track!). What initially began with the idea of adding a few new features and a customary facelift inevitably turned into the seven-month undertaking that sits in front of you.
With the advent of HD providing an opportunity for everybody to join the cause (Microsoft, Sony, Opticians?), we thought it about time to ramp up our offerings and believe the time's been spent quite well. Following the YouTube model, we're opening up the TVG.TV section for everybody to contribute - if you've found an amusing game glitch, created a machinima masterpiece or just something that has to be seen (but videogame related) we would like to see it, plus you'll get a hefty bonus to those previously unexplained Gamer Points as a result.
For those that are wondering what's happened to the Gamer Points, we've regrettably had to do a WoW like reset, bringing everything to a level playing ground for the raft of new community features we've added. Finally, however, those Gamer Points have a purpose. As much as it pains the obsessive collector in us, we'll be giving away a combination of sought-after prizes and the worst tat that comes through the letterbox each month, along with a TVG t-shirt sporting the designs from the artist responsible for the caricatures you now have to put up with. In the months since we adopted blog styled comments, thousands have shared their opinions, vented frustrations, occasionally pointed the error in our ways, spammed fruitlessly and sporadically battled like Sith and Jedi. We hope the improvements will make it all a little easier - except for the spamming, that just soaks up time.
Beyond commenting, you'll now have the ability to provide an alternative opinion on the latest fanatical FPS or XBLA retro classic via the Reader Reviews section. Accessed via the Game Summary for every game in the bludgeoning TVG database, we're hoping (and pleading) that reader reviews will compliment what's on offer and provide a balanced and informative overview - they'll also help to boost that Gamer Points tally.
There's a lengthy list of further improvements (with a few yet to arrive), but rather then add to an equally drawn out article, it's probably best to just let you find them in your own time.
