Infinity Ward Gets Even With Call Of Duty??? News

An 'inside source' reveals to one online site that work on Call of Duty 4 is already underway and will be set in the modern day...
Just days after the release of Call of Duty 3 come reports that original CoD developers Infinity Ward are currently working on a fourth instalment for PC and consoles. According to a 'reliable source close to the Call of Duty development teams' who has spoken to Amped IGO, the game has been christened Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (something that was claimed earlier in 2006).
Apparently setting the would-be Call of Duty 4 in the hot bed of Middle East conflicts, the article states that Infinity Ward is adding new details such as up to sixteen hit points on an enemy's head, allowing players to "...shoot an enemy's ear off."
According to the report, an arrangement has been made between publisher Activision, Infinity Ward, and Call of Duty 3 developers Treyarch, which will see the latter produce odd-numbered instalments - leaving Infinity Ward to do the even-numbered. Perhaps it indicates an end to spin-off titles like Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, which was developed by Treyarch in 2005 and released on Xbox and PlayStation2?
It's been mentioned to TVG on many occasions that the reason behind the lack of a PC Call of Duty 3 is simply because TreyArch don't create PC games. Does this suggest that PC gamers will only experience half the series, or that Call of Duty means so much to Activision that they're raising its stakes to an annual evolution of the series? Treyarch's responsibility to develop Call of Duty 3 has already raised questions in recent months as to what the team at Infinity Ward are up to, something that officially remains unanswered.
Of course all of this continues to be in the domain of rumour, but it wouldn't be the first time that a contemporary setting has been pinned to the Call of Duty series; speculation of "Modern Warfare" emerged just before E3 2005, though this was later dismissed to TVG by Activision representatives.
We'll have more news shortly...
