Nintendo confirms the European release of Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Donkey Kong: King of Swing and Mario Power Tennis...
Nintendo today sent along details of a selection of games heading their way towards the GameCube and GameBoy Advance during Q1 2005.
February 4th 2005 looks likely to be the date when weâll be whipping out the DK bongos once again, as Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat arrives on European shores. This time around however itâs not about beating the drums and clapping your hands in time with the music, but actually taking control of Donkey Kong in an all-new platform adventure.
By tapping the left and right drum, beating them together or clapping your hands, players take control of Donkey Kong, as he runs, jumps, and swings his way through the jungle, collecting bananas and battling beasts.
Not to be outdone however, GameBoy Advance owners will also get their share of big-ape action with the release of Donkey Kong: King of Swing for the handheld. With his simian friends, Donkey Kong must swing his way through the jungle and retrieve the medallions stolen by the evil King K Rool.
The game merges elements of platform and puzzle, whilst featuring a unique control system that utilises the L and R shoulder buttons to control DKâs hands individually, to swing on the vines and build up momentum for a mighty leap.
In addition the game features a multiplayer mode, allowing four players to compete for the accolade of becoming King of the Jungle.
Finally, February brings the release of the hugely acclaimed Mario Power Tennis for the GameCube. Following on from its N64 predecessor, Mario Power Tennis features maddeningly addictive arcade styled gaming, as you hit the courts with a choice of 14 all-time greats such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Donkey Kong.
Each character within the game has two special moves to get them out of sticky situations, one for offence and one for defence, which can be charged up and used at certain points when your character flashes. These range from moves that propel characters across the court to save a shot, to special serves to outwit your opponent and hit an ace.
The game features 8 wacky themed courts to play on, ranging from a huge stadium in Princess Peachâs Castle (we never found that in Super Mario 64) to Warioâs Factory Court. As youâd expect, each of the courts behave a little âdifferentlyâ to traditional tennis courts, with a selection of crazy hazards to avoid, such as Ghosts dropping bananas and stealing the balls in Luigiâs Haunted Mansion stage.
Naturally the game features a huge selection of unlockable goodies to discover along with a four-player mode, which should ensure this stays firmly rooted in your GameCube.
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat complete with DK Bongos and Donkey Kong: King of Swing are scheduled for European release on February 4th 2005 for an estimated retail price of 60 (£40) and 40 euros (£27) respectively.
Mario Power tennis follows slightly later on February 25th 2005, for an estimated retail price of 60 euros (£40).
