The classics will be available on Steam with a Quake III Arena remake heading to XBLA...
At Quakecon last Friday, id software revealed that they will be releasing their back catalogue of games on Steam (15 years of id history), as well as a confirmation of Quake Arena Arcade's release on Xbox Live Arcade (based on Quake III Arena), and also Quake Zero as a web-browser based game freely distributed under advertising revenues.
The back catalogue on Steam is set to include the Doom games, Quake I-III, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, HeXen, Heretic and Commander Keen (including all mission and expansion packs). For a limited time only, these titles will be available with a 10% reduction on Steam.
id also showed footage of their upcoming title Rage at the convention in Dallas, Texas. The game is set to run on their new id Tech 5 engine and is reputably going to see a change in id's trademark claustrophobic environments by offering more expansive outdoor areas. The plot will see players fighting an oppressive government in a post-apocalyptic world.
