Subpoenas submitted to Take-Two as GTA: San Andreas continues to grab headlines...
The furore surrounding the infamous GTA: San Andreas "Hot Coffee" scandal looks set to continue; with Take-Two today confirming that it has received grand jury subpoenas issued by the District Attorney of the County of New York.
Requesting the production of a lengthy series of documents covering various periods beginning on October 1st 2001, including those relating to the publisher's officers and directors regarding the creation and inclusion of the woefully rendered sex scenes; the submission of GTA: San Andreas to the ESRB; Take-Two's disclosures regarding "Hot Coffee", acquisitions, partnering arrangements and earning results; invoices from, payments to and termination of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and retention of Ernst & Young LLP; acquisitions by the Company in 2005; certain compensation and human resources documents with respect to the Company and certain of its current and former officers and directors; and documents concerning the activities of the Company's Board of Directors and Committees thereof.
Despite the announcement Take-Two does not believe that it or any specific individual is a target of the investigation; however, it seems that the storm looks set to continue. Perhaps North America is placing such a focus on the mildly sexual overtones featured in GTA: San Andreas, because it's easier to kick up a fuss over that then provide legal guidelines surrounding the violent content of GTA titles!
Take-Two have confirmed that they are fully cooperating with the request and providing the sought-after documents; expect further developments to the drama that will never die shortly...
