Head Tracking Technology For PS Eye News

Sony is poised to unleash new head tracking technology for the PlayStation 3's Eye camera...
Sony demoed some new technology for its PlayStation Eye camera at GDC last week. The new tech will allow the camera to track the movements of a player's head and match that movement to various commands.
MTV's Multiplayer blog reports on the demo, speculating that it could be used for shooters where the tilt of a gamer's head will instruct playable characters to glance around corners. The report also notes that no additional motion sensing devices will be required to utilise this technology, just the camera itself.
This sort of thing has been done before with limited success on previous generations of Sony's PlayStation cameras. Games such as EyeToy: Play attempted to utilise similar movement recognition technology on the PS2's EyeToy camera, although the game itself was a bit hit and miss.
No scheduled PS3 games have been linked with the technology so far but, if the library of EyeToy compatible games on PS2 are anything to go by, then this new tech is likely to be utilised in casual games for the younger market before shooters get a look in.
