Halo 3 will pick up where Halo 2 left off. The Master Chief is returning to Earth to finish the fight. The Covenant occupation of Earth has uncovered a massive and ancient object beneath the African sands - an object who's secrets have yet to be revealed. Earth's forces are battered and beaten. The Master Chief's AI companion Cortana is still trapped in the clutches of the Gravemind - a horrifying Flood intelligence, and a civil war is raging in the heart of the Covenant.

Call of Duty 4's dominance ends after just a week; Master Chief's finishing fight leads the most played list...


Perhaps it was just a blip, or perhaps it's the result of hundreds of thousands of rabid Master Chief fans, but Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat's lead on top of the Xbox Live Most Played has ended after just seven days.

Last week saw the Infinity Ward shooter take the top spot, leaping ahead of Halo 3 and breaking Bungie's dominance which it had held since its launch in September 2007. However, Halo 3 has today been revealed as the most played title on Xbox Live for the past week, with Modern Combat dropping back down to second place.

Guitar Hero III remains in third, but thanks for its limited time as a free download, the XBLA title Undertow has landed in fourth place, supplanting Gears of War which drops a place to fifth.

Whether it's been a drop in play on CoD4 or just Halo fanboys hating the fact that their beloved shooter lost out to a rival FPS is of course unclear - but we wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the latter.
