Half-Life 2 Security Breach 3…This Time It’s Personal News

Newell’s forum password guessed, phoney ‘going gold’ post added…

The saga of Valve softwareâs security continued this weekend, but like every sequel, the law of diminishing returns proves to be correct, as this time it wasnât a game code hack, but a phoney post from somebody posing as Head of Valve, Gabe Newell.

Members of the Half-Life 2 Fallout forums were astounded on Friday, when a post from Gabe Newell confirming that âWeâre going gold Mondayâ¦â appeared. The reaction to such a post was obvious, and excitement grew.

We can only imagine the disappointment that the Half-Life fan boys must have been feeling on Saturday, when a HL2F post stated that:

"After a close scrutiny of Gabe Newell's account history on the forums, we've come to the conclusion that the gold post is a fake... After one crazy night of theories, server mayhem, and IP tracing, we've finally gotten to the bottom of this mess. In a twist of hilarity, it seems that Gabe Newell's account password was set to 'gaben.' Person x guessed this and made the "going gold on Monday" post, which we've heard so much about. The user (who we believe is the same person x) then made this post just minutes ago using Gabe's account:

Maybe he shouldn't have used 'gaben' for his password. Come on Gabe, you could of [sic] thought of something better than that.

After a quick double-check, it seems that this was exactly what happened."

Sources have been in contact with TVG to advise that Half-Life 2 will not be ready for release this side of Christmas, flying in the face of the general consensus that the game will be going gold shortly â“ but to be honest it seems that nobody really has a clue.

TVG will bring you more news on the highly-anticipated sequel when we get it, fake forum posts not withstandingâ¦
