Activision is sued over a cover which is too similar to its original. Surely that's kind of the point...
As Guitar Hero 3 rocks the gaming world, one of Activision's previous Guitar Hero spin-offs on PlayStation 2 (Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s) is behaving like a true rock star and getting itself in trouble with the law, according to music site Billboard.
80s band, The Romantics, have filed a lawsuit in Detroit against Activision for use of their hit track What I Like About You. Apparently the imitation recording of the track uses vocals and instrumental accompaniments that are far too similar to the original recordings.
Activision always makes gamers aware of the fact that some tracks aren't the original mastered versions by labelling them "Made popular by...". In this case it would seem that's not enough for The Romantics, who're requesting that Rocks the 80s' distribution is halted, as well as a record of Activision's profits for the title and an unspecified amount of compensation. They're not asking for much, then!
