Guild Wars: Prophecies

You need to be logged in to track this game

Guild Wars takes the best elements of today's massively multiplayer online games and combines them with a new mission-based design that eliminates the tedium of those games. You can meet new friends in towns or outposts, form a party, and then go tackle a quest together. Your party always has its own unique copy of the quest map, so camping, kill-stealing, and long lines to complete quests are all things of the past.

Five million units of the subscription-free MMO sold since the franchise started in 2005...

NCsoft has today confirmed that sales of its subscription-free MMO franchise Guild Wars have broken through the five million unit mark, less than three years after it first launched.

The series, which has three full instalments (Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall) plus an expansion pack (Eye of the North), is developed by ArenaNet and relies on its instalments injecting unique gameplay and races rather than the traditional subscription model.

"Guild Wars is a proven success and has set a new standard for online RPG games with its unique business model and superior playability," said NCsoft CEO Taek Jin Kim. "ArenaNet is dedicated to creating games that expand the market and provide great new content to our loyal player base. This success has built a great foundation from which the next generation of Guild Wars games will grow."

"Reaching the five million mark is extremely gratifying for us at ArenaNet because it shows the hard work and dedication we put into our games has resonated with the fans," said Mike O'Brien, co-founder of ArenaNet. "We are committed to supporting all of our Guild Wars players, and at the same time, we're extremely excited to work on the game's evolution. Certainly the future of Guild Wars is as bright as its past and present."

The Washington State-based studio is currently working on the first full sequel to Guild Wars - Guild Wars 2 - which is currently slated for release during 2009.

GW has the best PvP system and game mechanics. GW GvG >PvP in every other game. WoW PvE may be more entertaining to some grind-lovers.

If they make it so that we have to pay to play, they will loose TONS of business!
What makes Guildwars so unique is the free online play, and taking that away would be like putting guildwars down. Rusty syringe and all!
