EA drop the GoldenEye 2 tagline and release further details...
Having been feverishly featuring within the rumour rounds in recent weeks, with some suggestions that EA had canned the title after poor results from focus testing, the US publisher today lifted the lid on GoldenEye: Rogue Agent.
Presumably in an attempt to ease the fears of fans of the original, EA have decided to drop the â2â moniker in favour of the new title.
As we knew from the previous announcement, players assume the role of an aspiring 00 agent dismissed from the MI6 for brutality. However itâs not long before the player is hired by Auric Goldfinger, a wealthy super-villain with a lust for all things gold.
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent sees Goldfinger locked in a ruthless war against his archenemy, the brilliant scientist Dr.No; with the prize being control of the greatest criminal organisation on the planet. A brutal encounter with Dr.No costs the player an eye, but Goldfingerâs technicians replace it with a gold-hued synthetic eye, earning the player the name GoldenEye.
Throughout the game players have the ability to customise and upgrade their villains persona, whilst causing as much havoc as they make their unrelenting rise through the ranks.
Weâre told that players can expect surprise encounters with a wide variety of legendary allies and enemies, such as OddJob, Scaramanga, Xenia Onatopp and Pussy Galore to mention but a few; however quite how EA will ensure the integrity of the Bond timeline remains in question.
Various famed locations from the movies will also make an appearance, whether it be the mountains of Switzerland to the crowded streets of Hong Kong; from Fort Knox to Dr.Noâs Crab Key lair in the Caribbean.
EA claim that GoldenEye: Rogue Agent will feature advanced AI for the opponents that youâll come across, reacting intelligently to the changes during combat and making heavy use of the environment for intense and unpredictable shootouts.
Todayâs press release confirms that only the PS2 version will ship with online support, putting an end to the rumours of supporting Xbox Live! â“ however it should be noted that this could still come at a later date.
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent will feature an extensive selection of single and multiplayer modes, including story-driven campaign missions, deathmatch style simulator trials, and objective based war games.
Weâll have more information soon.
